Flash Sample Assignments

The following assignments are the four I give to my introductory Flash course.

Assignment #1 - The Animation Pre-process
There are two goals for this project:

  1. To understand and execute the animation pre-process: script writing, story boarding, and character development.
  2. To practice using Flash drawing tools and techniques.

Assignment #2 - Animation for branding and communication: designing a web site intro animation.
This assignment asks the student to consider why animated intros are placed on web sites and how they enhance or detract from the site message. For this assignment the student must create or recreate an animated intro for a web site that facilitates communication of the company or organization's key message.

Assignment #3 - Collaborative Animated Music Video
For this task, students work together as a team to create an animated music video. The project challenges students to design expressive, versatile characters, invent creative animated transitions, and explore the relationship between sound and image. This project also provides students with an opportunity to work collaboratively in Flash and experience the inherent challenges of working as a team.

For the students' final project, they are given the opportunity to explore their own area of interest in Flash: ActionScript programming, design, game making, web design, animation, etc... The one major requirement is that students seek out additional Flash knowledge from other sources.
